Gybing Activity 2 – Aft main

The Sand to Salt Gybing Activity Sheet (2) for Aft mainsheet Double-handed Dinghies.

This activity sheet forms part of our tacking and gybing series for small sailing boats (dinghies) and helps with revising the essential steps needed to complete a safe, efficient gybe . This sheet is for students who have learned how to gybe with our poster and are testing their knowledge.

A gybe is when the boat is turned with the stern turning though the no go zone (through the wind). Aft mainsheet refers to boats where the mainsheet comes from the back of the boat via a traveller.

This activity takes all the individual parts of the gybing sequence, jumbles them up, and asks you to cut them out and put them in order. There is a second sheet that has the boat diagrams for each of the 5 major stages, where the smaller steps can be glued into.

About the Gybing Activity:

• 1 x Sheet with all the gybing steps to be cut out (aft mainsheet doublehanded gybe)
• 1 x Sheet with boat diagrams on showing the manoeuvre for gluing the text parts onto.
• 1 x Answer sheet for guidance.
