The Sand to Salt Tacking Challenge Activity Sheet for Centremain Double-handed Dinghies.
This challenge sheet forms part of our tacking and gybing series for small sailing boats (dinghies) and helps with revising the essential steps needed to complete a safe, efficient tack . This sheet is for students who have learned how to tack with our poster and are testing their knowledge, and is slightly more challenging than the other activity sheets.
A tack is when the boat is turned more than 90 degrees with the bow turning though the no go zone (through the wind) and over to the other side. Centremain refers to where the mainsheet is located in the boat - if it comes from the middle, it is centremain.
This Challenge sheet is ideal for initiating discussion about the skill in a thought provoking way and develops a deeper understanding of the process of tacking. For students learning without an instructor, an answer sheet is included with full explanations.
